À propos de cette activité
Our journey begins at the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, one of Algeria's most iconic ancient monuments, located between Algiers and Tipaza. Here, we meet and begin our adventure by exploring the fascinating history of the Numidian kings and the ancient Kingdom of Mauretania.
We then head to Cherchell, once known as Caesarea, the capital of Roman Mauretania. Our first stop is the National Museum of Cherchell, home to an outstanding collection of Roman sculptures, mosaics, and archaeological treasures. After the museum, we take a pleasant walk along the harbor, explore the traditional market, and visit the historic mosque of Cherchell, reflecting the city's rich cultural heritage.
Next, we continue to the Roman Archaeological Site of Tipaza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. After a brief introduction to the history of the ancient city, we explore its most important landmarks, including the gladiator arena, Roman temples, the Cardo Maximus and Decumanus Maximus, elegant residential villas, Roman baths, and the remains of the ancient garum production workshop.
The tour then leads us to the impressive Early Christian Basilica, where breathtaking views of the Mediterranean await. We continue along the ancient city walls and watchtowers, and, if time allows, visit the Albert Camus Memorial Stele, dedicated to the famous writer who found inspiration in the beauty of Tipaza.
We end our journey at the Roman theatre and the ancient fountain, completing an unforgettable experience through more than 2,000 years of history, culture, and Mediterranean heritage.
